Discover Harborside: The Boulevard’s Best-Kept Dining Secret

We arrived in Surigao City just in time for lunch—tired, hungry, and craving something comforting. After settling into our hotel room, we asked the friendly staff for dining recommendations. Their top tip? Head to the boulevard. It’s lined with food spots, perfect for choosing what suits your cravings.

With the midday heat at full blast, we were on the lookout for an air-conditioned place to cool off while we ate. That’s when we stumbled upon Harborside. A quick glance at their posted menu showed some promising options, so we stepped inside.

We ordered Kalderetang Kambing—my husband’s favorite—along with baked scallops, buttered chicken, and tinolang native na manok. The Kalderetang Kambing was wonderfully tender and impressively clean-tasting, without the usual gaminess of goat meat. The only thing I noted was its sweetness, which was a bit stronger than expected. A slightly toned-down sweetness might allow the dish’s classic savory richness to shine through.

The baked scallops? Fresh and flavorful, with no trace of fishiness. However, like the kaldereta, the sweetness took center stage. A touch more cheese might've provided the perfect salty counterbalance.

Their buttered chicken hit the mark: well-seasoned, crisp on the outside, and juicy inside. A comforting and satisfying choice for sure. But the standout dish for us was the native chicken tinola. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful, thanks to the native chicken. Its simple, soulful taste offered a welcome contrast to the more indulgent dishes—and truly warmed our hearts. There's just something so familiar and Filipino about sipping hot soup with a hearty meal.

All in all, Harborside didn’t just satisfy our hunger—it surprised at first that it’s considered a “must-try” in Surigao City, but we’re glad fate led us there.
